The Magnificent Seven
The 2016 Automobile All-Stars
We don't do boring.

Yes, we're impressed that the Acme BlahMiser Brougham sold 600,000 units last year, but if it doesn't make our cerebellum sizzle when we drive it, if it doesn't channel our passion for mechanical splendor, if it doesn't make us a bit teary-eyed when we switch off the ignition, it'll never be an Automobile All-Star. Save the complicated entry rules, the price caps, and the tedious numbers-crunching for the consumer reporters. We're aficionados, as attuned to the tugging of our hearts as we are to the musings of our minds.

What's more, like most of you we dream big; a couple of the winners pictured here climb pretty high into the price stratosphere. But, hey, just because we can't afford a Jackson Pollock painting doesn't mean we're not going to celebrate its brilliance -- and envy those who can hang one on their living room wall. Thus, our formula for this All-Stars shootout: We gathered up 25 of the 2016 model year's most intriguing new models spanning a variety of classes and market niches and drove them for a week on the racetrack and the road, and voted for our seven favorites. Boom, done: the best of the best, the new vehicles dearest to this magazine's purpose. These are the 2016 Automobile All-Stars.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro Turbo Review:
You Just Won't Believe It

Instead we think of the Camaro 2L Turbo 1LT as the $26,695 answer to Camaro ownership. If all that stands between you and Camaro ownership is the thickness of your wallet, then we think it̢۪s smarter to be driving this car than standing by the road. The Camaro is one of the great names in U.S. driving, and you should definitely own one at least once in your life.

DEFIANTLY DETROIT: A Hot Lap
in the All-New 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

As we're led to the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, with its supercharged, 6.2-L V-8, the car's brake discs are glowing bright orange in the gathering darkness. We're the last to get a racing-speed passenger ride here at the east loop of the Spring Mountain Motor Resort, and we're fitted with helmet and HANS device, then strapped into the five-point safety harness of the ZL1's passenger seat (aka "death seat").

2017 Lincoln Continental Design: Not That Good

2017 Lincoln Continental Design Review:
The Car Is Just Not All That Great

The new Continental is anything but a winner in styling terms. It's dismal and totally without originality. The grille looks like a pastiche of an old Infiniti outline with woven-wire stone guard texture. Front-wheel drive is not the right architecture for a luxury car, and the Continental's overall proportions are stumpy.
