First Look: 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

By ditching V-6 engines in favor of improved four-cylinder engines, Hyundai's clearly making fuel economy a chief priority with its 2011 Sonata -- but customers who want the utmost in fuel savings will likely look past the standard sedans and shop the new 2011 Sonata Hybrid, which makes its debut at the 2010 New York auto show.

Contrary to many hybrid variants of existing models, Hyundai has actually made quite a few visual changes to the Sonata Hybrid's exterior. Among the list of equipment unique to the hybrid version of the Sonata are the headlights and taillights, bumper fascias, rocker panels, front grille, 'eco-spoke' wheels, air dam and side sills, badging and paint color. Sure, some of those changes are purely cosmetic, but Hyundai says that many are functional, making the Sonata Hybrid more aerodynamic and lowering its drag coefficient to a slippery 0.25 -- the same as the Toyota Prius. more

Alfa Romeo's Centennial Anniversary - 4C to Debut at Pebble Beach

This August, Alfa Romeo will celebrate its centennial at Pebble Beach, where it is a featured marque at the Concours d'Elegance. Rumor has it that the Italians will cap off the festivities by unveiling the 4C, a compact, lightweight sports car concept. Says one insider from parent company Fiat's headquarters: "The 8C has been a very successful halo car. What we need next is a more affordable follow-up model that spreads the message over a wider customer base."

The 4C, interpreted here by our spy illustrator, will do without high-end materials like carbon fiber or a Ferrari-built engine. Instead, it's expected to feature a highly tuned, 250-hp four-cylinder, possibly mated to a rear transaxle as in the 8C. Production will probably be limited to 5000 (rather than 500) units. The roadster may be followed by a coupe (or vice versa), and prices are expected to start at about $70,000. more
